We hope you choose Heights AC & Heating for all your heating and cooling needs, but just in case, here are some helpful "tips" on how to keep your system up and running...

General Maintenance Tips

Check & Change your air filter monthly. Dirty filters restrict the airflow to your evaporator coil, which can cause your unit to stop working.  Air filters should be replaced or cleaned every 3 months.

Check the batteries in your thermostat.  A good rule of thumb is to always replace the batteries in your thermostat when you change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

Make sure your thermostat is mounted level and is 5 ft above the ground. Your thermostat must be properly installed or your unit will not run efficiently.

Clean off the outside condensing unit at least every quarter go outside and spray your outside condensing unit down with a simple garden hose. Never use a pressure washer! You want the water to run clear and remove mud and other debris like grass and leaves.

Keep 18" clearance around your units. Shrubbery, vines, and other debris can impact your systems performance.  Make sure your outside unit has at least 18" of clearance around its parameter.

Call Heights AC & Heating to schedule your preventative maintenance service call today!  Do you go 100,000 miles without an oil change for your car?  Hopefully not.  Your heating and cooling system is the same way.  A good practice is prior to high usage months, have a certified professional do a full service check on your system.

Have an Air Conditioning Fund. We live in Houston, Texas the most air conditioned city in the world! It's not if your unit dies, but when. Keep an A/C savings account setup to auto draft $40-60/month from your checking account. This will help offset the cost of replacement when its time.
